The new Cardiff University
Simulation Theatre, sponsored by Flexicare and opened by the Welsh
Assembly Government Minister for Health, Mrs Edwina Hart on the 3rd
July 2008 includes an interactive human patient simulator which
will allow School of Medicine students to learn, rehearse and
perfect procedures in anaesthesia and intensive care.
Professor Judith Hall, School of Medicine who has led the
campaign said: "This is an important development for undergraduate
and postgraduate education at Cardiff. The simulator provides the
closest situation to the real thing without any risk to patients or
learners, so that medical students can rehearse management of both
routine and less common, life-threatening events."
Teaching is video recorded allowing students to review and
develop their skills. The Minister for Health met with 4th year
Cardiff University Medical Students and saw a demonstration of an
ectopic pregnancy.
Professor Judith Hall said: "I am
impressed by this new teaching facility for medical students at
Cardiff University and is a wonderful example of industry working
with healthcare providers." The facilities at Cardiff can
also be video linked to throughout Wales extending this valuable
training.
"We are proud to be part of the success achieved and look
forward to its continued growth in meeting the aspirations and
needs of our Clinicians in the years ahead."
Hash Poormand, Business Development Director,
Flexicare.
