Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) is commonly used in
critically ill patients with respiratory failure primarily to
provide
increased blood oxygenation by maintaining PaO2 levels for
effective ventilation and reduce the work of the patient's
breathing and
weaning from a ventilator for spontaneous breathing patients.
Patients which may be suitable for non-invasive ventilation (NIV)
may demonstrate:
• Acute exacerbation for COPD • Mechanical Ventilation Weaning •
Asthmatic Patients • Thoracic Restrictive Disease
• Acute or Chronic Respiratory Failure (including Hypoxaemic Acute
Respiratory Failure)
Flexicare have developed a series of combinations for CPAP and
are available to provide patients with passive or active
humidification.
