Flexicare, a leading UK headquartered manufacturer of medical devices, is pleased to announce that it has acquired Medisize B.V. from an affiliate of Phillips-Medisize.
Medisize is a manufacturer specialising in the supply and distribution of a wide range of respiratory and anaesthesia products for critical care, neonatology, emergency, homecare and radiology (Airway Management). The acquisition of Medisize includes operations in the Netherlands, and subsidiaries in Germany and Italy.
This transaction provides Flexicare with an enhanced presence in mainland Europe supported by the Medisize sales and distribution networks in three European geographies. Acquiring Medisize supplements the Flexicare global product portfolio providing greater choice and coverage for existing and new customers.
The sale of Medisize B.V. by Phillips-Medisize will enable both organisations to focus on their differing areas of expertise, thus better serving the needs of their distinct customer groups. The business acquired does not include any of the contract manufacturing and design consultancy businesses of Phillips-Medisize in the Netherlands, Czech Republic or elsewhere.
Commenting on the deal, Flexicare Managing Director Hash Poormand said:
“This transaction underscores our commitment across Europe to be a leader in airway management and anaesthesia, with the ability to deliver and service the market at scale.
The rapid organic growth that we have enjoyed, as a result of our innovative product portfolio and recent acquisitions, will give us further reach and the combination of the two companies will increase the value Flexicare and Medisize B.V. deliver to its customers and end users. The acquisition is expected to immediately accelerate revenue growth and drive overall earnings growth potential for Flexicare’s wider range of anaesthesia and airway management products, truly exciting times ahead.”
Matt Jennings, CEO and President, Phillips-Medisize commented:
“We believe this is a very positive transaction for both Flexicare and Phillips-Medisize. The Airway Management business closely aligns with Flexicare’s vision. Flexicare’s strength and presence in this market makes them well-positioned to fully leverage the talent and expertise of the Airway Management team in continuing to provide innovative airway management solutions.”
Flexicare has a long standing history of working in partnership with clinicians and University Hospitals to develop new, innovative products, and supporting the ongoing education of students and clinicians, helping to create a better future for patients.
This partnership has just taken a major step forward with the launch of The Bill Mapleson Centre, a new State-of-Art Centre for medical training and product testing at Flexicare’s HQ in South Wales.
The Centre is named after the famous Professor Mapleson, who classified breathing systems in his British Journal of Anaesthesia paper in 1954 and went on to have significant achievements related to pharmacokinetics and ventilators.
At a major ceremony on 22nd May, Professor Mapleson was there to celebrate the opening in the presence of dignitaries such as the Health Minister, Mark Drayford, Cardiff University Deputy Vice Chancellor Professor Elizabeth Treasure and Professor Judith Hall from Cardiff University School of Medicine, joined by over 100 guests.
The Bill Mapleson Centre will provide:
State-of-the-Art Laboratory Facilities for equipment development and independent testing in a purpose built physics laboratory.
Medical Training Space with a Clinical Simulation Suite for undergraduate and postgraduate students to develop anaesthesia and intensive care skills using state of the art simulators in a clinical environment.
The Centre will also provide continuous professional development and refresher training to the wider medical community, including General Practitioners and Dentists.
Having supported the first Simulation Centre in Cardiff University, Flexicare are proud to continue this partnership where industry and academia can work together for the benefits of improved patient care.

Many hospitals have traditionally used re-usable devices, but are they aware that single patient use could save them money and improve the care of their patients? To explain the benefits, Flexicare has produced a new animated video, illustrating the importance of Single Patient Use devices.
With over 1.7 million hospital acquired infections per year1 in the US alone, it’s important to raise awareness of single patient use medical devices, helping clinicians eliminate cross-infection and reduce risk. The video poses challenging questions and presents statistics regarding the benefits of using single patient use devices to enhance patient safety, in a fun and imaginative way.
According to the AAGBI, “Where appropriate, single-use disposable equipment will remove the difficulties of re-use and decontamination procedures. The use of such equipment is to be encouraged.”2
Flexicare offers a wide range of single patient use devices, including BritePro Solo, LarySeal, Anaesthesia Face Masks, ET Tubes, Breathing Systems, and much more.
